It is my privilege to be the President of the Cantonment Board of the oldest cantonment of our country. The Barrackpore Cantonment was established in 1765 and has had the proud distinction of being the path breaker in our Country's Freedom Movement.

The year 2007 is the 150th anniversary of the First War of Independence and we intend to celebrate it in a befitting manner. Besides other things we intend to organize a light and sound Show in the Mangal Pandey Park to showcase the stellar efforts of our Freedom Fighters.

Our efforts to galvanise the Cantonment into a show Case Town continues in right earnest. Besides improving basic amenities we intend to launch a ‘Beautify Barrackpore Campaign” with construction of Parks, beautification of Ponds and enhancing the Green Cover of the Cantt. Work on a Modern Bus Terminus as also improvement of the ferry Ghat will also commence shortly.
